The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
