The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Over Size Modifications

Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The second-hand shopping app has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Response

Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.

The company said the new system was more in line with other platforms.

It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.

Size Classification Changes

Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she said.

Required Changes

Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.

Marketplace Information

The service features exceeding 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.

It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
